Dedham’s Sue Pratt Is Honored with Dog Grooming Industry’s Most Prestigious Award

Groomer at Twickenton Dog and Cat Grooming Wins Industry Award for her Assistance to Others During Hurricane Sandy

AZUSA, Calif. – The Oscars of competitive dog grooming, the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards, were held recently at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, with members of the industry gathering to honor the best and the brightest groomers, contest judges and pet salons of the year.  Among the award recipients was Sue Pratt of Dedham, who was presented with the David G. Salzberg Award for her outstanding contributions to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Sue has spent over 47 years in the grooming business and 28 of them have been grooming at Twickenton Dog and Cat Grooming in Dedham. Throughout her competing career, Sue won several scissoring awards and many placements at Intergroom, including 2 silver medals. Additionally she was the winner of Best Groomed Dog in Show for NEPGP. Sue, although no longer competing, now judges, does private tutoring and is Contest Co-Cordinator for Intergroom.

Sue was awarded the David G. Salzberg Award at this year’s Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards for her assistance to others during Hurricane Sandy. She participated in groom-a-thons put together by groomer Lisa Correia and took donations from fellow groomers. Sue collected clothes, food, dog and cat supplies and grooming equipment to take with her when she participated in the first groom-a-thon. Lisa Correia went on to host three groom-a-thons and although Sue couldn’t attend all three, she was integral in contacting additional groomers to participate in the second two events.

“The David G. Salzberg Award is presented annually to an individual who personally inspires groomers and supports the advancement of the grooming industry. The selflessness that Sue demonstrated during Hurricane Sandy makes her perfect candidate for this award,” said Barbara Denzer, Vice President of Cardinal Pet Care, a major manufacturer of pet products and sponsor of the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards.  “We are honored to present the David G. Salzberg Award to Sue for her contributions to those in need during Hurricane Sandy.”

The Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards were founded in 1988 by Cardinal Pet Care President Tony de Vos and Shirlee Kalstone, then owner of the International Intergroom trade show for competitive grooming, for the purpose of establishing standards of grooming excellence and recognizing professional skills in the competitive grooming industry.  Since the beginning, the Cardinal Crystal Grooming Achievement Awards have been considered one of the highest honors in the pet grooming industry, annually presenting awards for outstanding achievement in several different grooming categories.
